Painless ultrasound scan to visually check the heart.

While Heartscreen potentially identifies cardiac failure, Heartscan allows a more sophisticated examination of the heart using ultrasound. This kind of imaging (known as echocardiography) is routinely used to look for physical defects or other heart abnormalities. It is especially useful in diagnosis of patients' with an abnormal Heartscreen tests because it helps define the most likely cause of the problem - for example a weak/enlarged heart, faulty heart valve or a congenital defect such as a hole in the heart.

This test will help you and your GP decide whether a specialist Cardiologist referral is necessary and with what priority. As the examination is undertaken in real time, our echo technician is able to see how the different parts of the heart are functioning. The examination is very quick, taking about 15 minutes, and better still, because it's non-invasive its completely painless.

There is no prior preparation so all you need to do is turn-up for your appointment! The Heartscan fee includes the scan and a report written by our echo technician.

GPs and Consultants use echo scans for assessing:

Congenital heart disease.
Pericardial disease.
Infective endocarditis including valvular lesions and their haemodynamic impact.
Cardiomyopathy.
Thoracic aortic disease.
Valvular heart disease and valve dysfunction as well as to check prosthetic valve operation.
The risk of thromboembolism caused by atrial fibrillation and its structural causes.
Left ventricular dysfunction.
